    Problems with XAMPP

I've set up XAMPP, installed it correctly, made it safe, whatever. I made a folder in HTDocs for my website and that works basically as it should. However, when I follow this guide to making a local url that i can access with "example.local," (i used parispaleo.local) what it always does is leads me to the XAMPP home screen, the same screen that shows up when i go to http://localhost/

any idea what's going on here?

Did you restart Apache after you edited the config? Since the site comes up at all it means you have the host setup properly, but Apache doesn't recognize the hostname, so the virtualhost is not setup properly or you haven't restarted the server to load up the updated config.
