    Site monitoring up/down up/down

I used a popular uptime site monitoring and it reported the site constantly going up and down.

When I visited the site there was nothing wrong with it so I changed the uptime provider.

Again, it is reporting the site is up/down every 30 mins but when I check the site there is nothing wrong with it.

Why or what could be causing this? Any ideas or suggestions?

    Thanks

Your host might be throttling or limiting the connections coming from the uptime checking service due to the volume, or they might be getting timeouts if they are further away from your server than you are. There are a lot of possibilities, actually.

    thanks -

ok i am going nuts here....

I changed to a NEW service provider that checks uptime of the site and it reports that it is down and then up every 30 mins.

When I check it is all ok....

    What is causing this?

Should I be worried at all @Inigoesdr can you think of anything else that it might be?

If both are reporting the same thing it might actually be going down briefly. Since it seems to happen at regular intervals you should try to ping your site around when you get the notices and see if you lose the ability to connect from your location, too. You can start a perpetual ping from a command prompt in Windows by using:
    Code:
    ping -t www.google.com
If you lose connection to the server as well it should be safe to assume the host itself is actually having issues every 30 minutes and you should contact them to resolve it. That could be when they run their backups, which would increase the load on the server and possibly cause timeouts.
