Hi there. i am trying to build a wiki for website. i am using media wiki http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual...ling_MediaWiki which use php and MySql
In the wiki provided by them there are .htaccess files which i have not been able to upload on to my server. Filezilla gives could not start error i.e.an access denied.

How can i get these files up? as i am not sure if these files are needed & i donot however want to take a chance as i am not experienced enough & dont want to take risk not to put .htaccess files?

I wanted to ask 1 more question.

how to unzip a file on the remote server sitting in my system. By the way i have admin rights and i use yahoo business server hosting if it helps. I really need to know this as i would save a lot of time.
    Please help
    Thank you for your time

For a wiki site .htaccess files are not needed because you can always rewrite the codes to allow the links to go to /wiki.php?wiki=MediaWiki for example but to make it look like /wiki/MediaWiki the you would need the .htaccess file I would suggest looking for a better host that allows .ht files to be uploaded if you want the better looking url.
