    Question Localhost

    Hello,
I am trying to install Apache, since it is needed for Joomla CMS requirements.

Anyways, I installed it using this tutorial: http://www.sebastiansulinski.co.uk/t..._on_windows_xp

I don't know if this matters to anyone, but when installing I choose Port 80.

When I completed installation, etc. I went to the Firefox Browser and typed in:

http://localhost/ and it Failed to Connect Error:

Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at localhost.
Though the site seems valid, the browser was unable to establish a connection.

I don't know too much about installing stuff, but I have a feeling maybe this tutorial was outdated when they told me to download this file: Win32 Binary (MSI Installer): apache_2.0.59-win32-x86-no_ssl.msi

Is that not the current file for installing Apache on Windows XP? Or is there something else that could be the problem?

If anyone knows, would be so much help..

You'd be better served installing a full stack like WAMP, especially considering you'll also be using PHP and MySQL with Joomla. There are tons of setup instructions and tutorials for WAMP.

Make sure your Apache server is running. You can see by going to your system and looking at the services. There is a small icon in the tray with the red feather coming out of a white circle that allows you to turn the service off and on. When you right click it you can access the services through the menu.
